The Technique for Lighting a Wood Fire in an Insert

: There is a reverse ignition technique known as top-down lighting. Easy to apply, this technique for lighting your wood fire will allow you to always successfully start your fireplace. These principles also apply perfectly to wood inserts.

Placing the Logs

Step 1

Place the logs in your or fireplace while respecting the load limits described in the user manual of your appliance. The logs must be split and dry (less than 20% moisture content).

Step 2 :

Add 2 or 3 layers of kindling on top of the logs, alternating the direction. Air circulation is important, so make sure to leave about 1 cm between each piece of wood. The kindling should not be too large.

Setting Up the Fire

Step 3 :

Place two firelighters on top of the kindling layers.

Step 4 :

Light the firelighter and close the door of your fireplace or stove. For larger fireboxes, the door may be left slightly open to prevent condensation.

This wood fire lighting technique is foolproof and will make your life easier!
